United Way Presents “Best Of” Awards
United Way of the Capital Region recently presented awards to five local companies recognizing campaign coordinators and their teams for outstanding work.
United Way created the “Best of” Awards to recognize the good work of individuals who are instrumental in the success of their company’s employee campaign. Honoring campaign coordinators, teams and companies, the awards celebrate the creativity taking place in the very best workplace campaigns.
Pennsylvania Chamber of Business and Industry received the small size company (5-99 employees) “Best Of” Award. The organization used a Pokemon Go theme throughout their campaign to develop friendly competition among employees. They also participated in United Way’s Day of Caring, Bridges Society and Women’s Leadership Network. As a result of their efforts, the chamber reached 100 percent employee participation for the 15th year in a row.
Fulton Bank received the medium size company (100-499 employees) “Best Of” Award. Members of the campaign team educated employees about United Way and its work in health, education, income and basic needs. They also got employees involved in volunteer projects including a sock drive and making blankets for kids in need.
The large size company (500 or more employees) “Best Of” Award went to Capital BlueCross. The team at Capital BlueCross incorporated the “We Aspire” theme into every aspect of their work, resulting in an extraordinary campaign. They participated in Day of Caring and were active in the Bridges Society and Women’s Leadership Network. They also took home the coveted United Way Trike Race trophy. Special event fundraising efforts included a bingo night, raffle baskets and a silent auction.
Deloitte Consulting won the award for Best Special Event. The organization utilized a “be a superhero for the community,” theme for their campaign. For their special event, they held a “superhero boot camp” and participants identified their own superhero name. All superheroes had to complete a variety of activities to test their United Way knowledge. Special activities were also held around the Bridges Society and Women’s Leadership Network.
Millers Mutual Group received an award for the best incorporation of the “We Aspire” theme in a campaign. The team replicated the United Way mural created in the campaign video. Members of Millers painted their thumb prints and signed their names to the poster. This incorporation of “We Aspire” was a great way for employees to learn about the importance of united way in the community, and how we can make a difference by working together.
