Reports To: Senior Vice President of Community Impact and Annual Giving
Exempt Status: Non-Exempt

Work Schedule: Full-time. Must be able to work a flexible schedule which may occasionally include early mornings and evenings.

Purpose of Position: To achieve long lasting, meaningful community impact in Income (financial stability) in the Capital Region through the development of relationships, partnerships, sustainable workforce development strategies and the engagement of volunteers.

Essential Functions
Workforce Development Community Initiative (Road to Success Program)

  • Staff and support initiatives relevant to workforce development for community impact.
  • Market Road to Success to businesses, employers, civic organizations, and community-based organizations to identify employer partners and sources for program participants.
  • Establish network of employer partners to hire program participants and act as subject matter experts in local workforce development issues and opportunities.
  • Actively participate in community collaboratives as a representative of Road to Success and engage new partners for program growth.
  • Represent Road to Success in business and civic networks designed to promote workforce development such as Chambers of Commerce, Rotary, Kiwanis and others.
  • Create and maintain strong relationships with area employers.
  • Keep abreast of the local job market for possible partnerships with new employers and possible new employment opportunities.
  • Research best practices relevant to improving workforce development initiatives and make recommendations for advancing and improving programs to core solution partners.
  • Create and maintain relationships with non-profit service providers and other subject matter experts.
  • Continually assess and develop relevant performance measures to demonstrate performance of workforce development efforts.
  • Monitor and document quarterly performance metrics and provide reports to core solution partners, community impact committee and board of directors.
  • Coordinate the development and distribution of marketing materials.
  • Identify funding opportunities and work with the United Way grant writer to meet reporting requirements for grants awarded.
  • Co-facilitate quarterly core solution partners meetings with chair to include developing agenda and identifying industry pertinent speakers.
  • Keep Senior VP of Community Impact and Annual Giving informed of anticipated issues or shortfalls that may influence the success of the program and the achievement of goals.

Position Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent.
  • 2 years of experience in nonprofit environment or in leading volunteers preferred.
  • Must demonstrate strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Comfortable with public speaking and group facilitation.
  • Must demonstrate strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Must demonstrate ability to work with diverse populations.
  • Experience working independently and in a team environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Possess and maintain a valid driver license and reliable transportation.

Annual Salary Range: $45,000-$50,000

Grant Writer

Grant Writer

Department: Community Impact
Reports to: Senior Vice President of Community Impact and Annual Giving
Employment Status: Part-time – 15-20 hours per week.

Work Schedule: Schedule will be contingent upon grant timelines and deadlines. Must be able to work a flexible schedule, which may include early mornings, evenings and weekends. Must be able to meet with United Way staff when necessary for grant development during regular business hours, Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Purpose of Position: To research relevant and highly probable grant opportunities at the local, regional, state and federal levels. Write high-quality grant proposal narratives, applications, and supporting documents that result in awarded funds to support United Way programs and operations.

Essential Functions

  • Lead, operationalize and develop systems to support product development.
  • Raise revenue through grants.
  • Network and engage with local, state and national funders.
  • Conduct prospect research to identify, cultivate and solicit new grants.
  • Launch and coordinate implementation of new grant activities.
  • Collect support data and information.
  • Write each grant in compliance with grant guidelines and framework.
  • Work with department managers to compile financials and data.
  • Prepare and submit required grant reports to funders and ensure that all grant payments are received.
  • Provide periodic grant reports to the CEO and leadership team, board of directors, appropriate volunteer committees, and other United Way staff and volunteers as requested.

Evaluation

  • The number of viable grant opportunities identified monthly as a result of research using the grants database, internet, and industry contacts.
  • The number of grants submitted.
  • The number of grant requests awarded annually.
  • The development of grant templates with standardized language to create consistent language in the areas of mission, vision, organizational background and strategic goals.

Position Qualifications

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in grant writing; nonprofit experience a plus.
  • Bachelor’s Degree required.
  • Demonstrated ability to write successful grant proposals.
  • Detail-oriented, organized, deadline-driven.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills required.
  • Clear, precise and compelling writing skills.
  • Able to effectively communicate.
  • Motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently with purpose and accuracy in a fast-paced environment.
  • High proficiency in all areas of Microsoft Office including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Possess and maintain a valid driver license and reliable transportation.

Accounts Payable Specialist

Accounts Payable Specialist

Department: Finance and Support Services
Reports to: Vice President of Finance and Support Services
Exempt Status: Non-Exempt

Work Schedule: Part-time. 15-25 hours per week between core hours of Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

Purpose of Position: To provide accounting and data entry services as well as general office support with the major emphasis on accounts payable transactions.

Essential Functions

  • Maintain accounts payable by obtaining purchase orders, preparing invoices for payment, cutting checks, generating reports, and filing invoices.
  • Maintain vendor files for accounts payable including agency allocations and designations.
  • Processing payouts to agencies for all campaign designations and allocations.
  • Provide customer service to both donors and agencies regarding designations.
  • Manage correspondence with agencies regarding online designation information (via website).
  • Assist in maintenance and organization of our various databases.
  • Provide administrative support to the Finance department as needed.
  • Assist with regulatory filings for PA Bureau of Charities, PA State Sales Tax, Small
  • Games of Chance and Special Raffle Permits, and Form 1099’s.
  • Other tasks as assigned.

Position Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree in accounting or equivalent experience with accounts payable and accounts receivable.
  • Must be detail oriented, have an intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office products.
  • Understanding of specific software as related to especially those pertaining to financial management, accounting, spreadsheets, and databases.
  • Ability to analyze data and prepare specialized reports.
  • Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and focus on multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Experience working with volunteers and in the nonprofit/fundraising environment.
  • Must be a self-starter with ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
